Stillness: Taking Time To Pause

The deserts of Central Australia are thousands of years old, and the time that Alice springs has featured upon them is merely a fragment in a long history. The landscape is always evolving, always changing. Even in the stillness, the desert breathes. Against this backdrop, it is important to take time to stop and rest.

It is easy to get caught up in the busyness of life. Even in Central Australia, so far from other places, where the lifestyle is more laid back, we can fill our days with tasks and activities. Work, friends, family, hobbies – if we are lucky enough to have all or some of these -  can cause stress in the endless juggling that day-to-day life requires. The added pressures that filter through from the wider world, such as stories of conflict and unrest both near and far, also have their own burden.

In the midst of this, stand back and pause. Take the rest you need. We are far from others, and life can become cluttered, but managing stress is important. Do the things you love that feed your soul. Move through the endless spaces of the Central Desert and notice the beauty. Take nothing for granted. Be thankful for the good, and see everything around you with new eyes.

The world around us is changing. Like the landscape, its forms are constantly in a state of flux. We feel the uncertainty. Life goes on, with all its light and shade. The shadows sometimes seem long, but the days are short. Take this moment and make it yours. Nothing lasts forever. Find the strength you need and continue. Tomorrow will thank you for it.
