Peace in Central Australia

In a world in flux and a society not without its own challenges, peace is a rare commodity. For each of us, it looks different. Standing in the Red Centre, looking at the MacDonnell Ranges under a clear sky, provides a break from the hurricane of life. As we look to the end of the year and the beginning of another, taking back peace is important.

2023 has seen flood and fire in different parts of the nation. Abroad, it has seen conflict and crisis as dark clouds move over some parts of the globe. We read and watch the stories of those walking though hell, and sometimes these wash over us and threaten to overwhelm.

In these moments, what can we do? Hold those dear to you even closer. Remember the spots in life when we felt connection with others and the country around us. Draw strength from being in community, and respite from standing alone. In life, we need balance.

Peace can exist around us, but it can also exist within our own hearts. It strengthens us, making us tough enough to face the realities of today’s conditions. If you know how to find peace in your heart, you know how to survive and keep on.

The good and bad both tainted 2023, and next year will be no different. Begin from a place of strength, and may you finish well. And may you know, as you stand on the red dirt of Central Australia, that 2024 is as yet unmarked and therefore still full of hope.
