Morning Breaks over Alice Springs

Under the sky, Alice Springs lies in the half-light, scattered across the Central Desert like salt. Daybreak here continues the traditions of a landscape that has seen many night-seasons, but also the relentless dawn.

The morning emerges over Central Australia and sunlight flushes out the hidden crevices of the ranges. Life has stirred through the hours of dark, and now those who have spent dusk till sunrise foraging and ferreting retire as a new cycle of life commences.

Branches of ghost gums and river red gums stretch silhouetted against the sky. The hot breath of the day sits upon the brow of many as we wait for winter. It is easy to see if the weather will be fine, or if precious rain will sting the earth. Morning brings with it hope, but no promises. The day might bless us - or break our hearts. The only way is through.

Most people sleep through the first moments of the day. They miss the faltering light and streaks of gold across the heavens. Others arise at the first blushes of colour, and head out to exercise or plan their upcoming schedule. No matter what we do, the morning kickstarts the next phase of time we have been gifted. Make it count.
