The Night Walk

In the darkness of an outback night, how do you see your way? Do you look to the lights along the way to guide you?

Some lights are gifted to us by other people. Street lamps, torches, flickering candles. People come and go in life, but the closest of friends help us see who we are and where we are going. For a moment and for a lifetime they make the secrets of the night plain and guide us along the dark road so that we reach our destination.

Other lights we must discern ourselves. The moon, stars, auroras, comets and meteor showers. All of them change the sky at night, offering glimpses of other worlds, beaming warmth and clarity into our midnight. Their beauty marks us and reminds us that the night is not totally without hope.

Everyone walks through the night at some point in their life. We all face the silence and sadness and are forced to continue until morning. As dawn draws nearer, we can see that we are almost through. Some things are not enjoyed or relished, but simply survived.

The night is made up of hours and as they slip past, time moves us forward. Night does not last forever.  The promise is that daybreak will come. Then you will no longer walk by the shadows of this world, but by the light.
